MLG Awarded Prestigious WEL-T Advanced Grant for Groundbreaking AI Research

MLG proudly announces that Professor Gianluca Bontempi has received the highly competitive WEL-T Investigator Programme – Advanced grant. This significant funding from the WEL Research Institute and FNRS will support the project, “Enhancing Digital TwinS with scalable and interpretable AI: from physics-based modelling and simulation to adaptive learning, big-data analytics and counterfactual reasoning” (EDITS). The project is set to pioneer the next generation of digital twin technology by integrating state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence.

The EDITS project aims to create more intelligent, adaptive, and understandable digital replicas of physical systems. Professor Bontempi’s team will tackle key challenges in big data, adaptive learning, and causal reasoning to unlock the full potential of Digital Twins. This research will have far-reaching applications, with case studies planned for the Internet of Things, urban traffic management, and wind farm energy production. This award is a testament to Professor Bontempi’s leading expertise in machine learning and his commitment to impactful, interdisciplinary research.
